How this data is built

  • Aldi weekly ads: scraped daily from aldi.us/store/aldi/pages/weekly-specials. We parse the Instacart-powered shelf pricing for produce, dairy, and pantry staples.
  • Whole Foods: scraped daily from amazon.com/alm/category pages. Both Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh use this catalog with a calibrated 0.92 sister-storefront factor.
  • BLS Average Retail Food Prices: monthly regional averages from api.bls.gov for ~21 confirmed-live items (eggs, milk, ground beef, bread, etc.) with per-service factors derived from Consumer Reports comparison studies.
  • Manual audits: we fill remaining gaps with prices typed from screenshots or real store visits. Manual entries always win against scraper estimates because they use today as the observed date.

Walmart+ pricing uses Walmart's in-store baseline. Local store pricing varies by zip and week — these comparisons are most accurate for relative ranking between services, not as a guaranteed bill.
